About Out of the Cold Georgetown
Since 2022, Out of the Cold Georgetown has provided a warm, safe and welcoming place for people experiencing homelessness, housing and/or food insecurity in our community.
We are 100% volunteer-run and it is through the generosity, care and compassion of our volunteers and community, that we are able to offer our programs.
Out of the Cold provides an emergency winter refuge, open nightly from mid-November to early April, and only on the nights when there are enough volunteers. Guests can expect to receive a friendly welcome, conversation and a listening ear, a hot evening meal, breakfast the following morning, and a bed in a safe, warm place for the night. Please note that we are not a staffed or permanent shelter.
There are two meal programs that run all year round, supported by Out of the Cold volunteers and other community members: Knox Table (Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm) and Community Dinner (first Friday of every month at 6:00pm).
People come to us for many reasons and with different life experiences. Whatever brings someone to our door, we aim to offer dignity, compassion and a genuine welcome. We are committed to creating a non-judgmental environment where guests and volunteers can connect through respect, kindness, shared conversations and good food.
